The Swastika

The Swastika is associated with Lord Ganesha and can often be seen displayed on his right hand, the hand of Blessing.  Jupiter is represented by Ganesha in Vedic astrology, the great benefic planet that bestows good fortune and knowledge, echoing the meaning of the Swastika and the radiant energy it represents.  The angles of a Rashi chart are the points of manifestation in ones life and a deeper meditation upon this symbol will reveal that it is made up of four perfect right angles at right angles to each other, representing this basic principle of astrology.  The 'right angle' or 'square' as it is known amongst artisans,  is the foundation from which the correct or true point that almost all of material manifestation starts from.  The Swastika can therefore be seen to not only represent good fortune, but also truth, and the placement of it's arms in the four sacred directions, pointing to that truth radiating in all directions, along with an inference of the 'ultimate' or 'universal truth'.  Upon deeper reflection it is easy to see that its meaning of 'knowledge and good fortune radiating in all directions to create the manifest universe', makes the Swastika a truly auspicious symbol.  The cultures of the West have chosen to regard this symbol in a negative light and to perpetuate it as a symbol of hatred, which is perhaps the reason that many of the mistakes of the past have not been properly healed or the energies that perpetuated them been removed from our consciousness.  It is time to set our prejudices aside and with courage in our hearts, to once again embrace the universal beauty that this symbol truly represents.
